Stinging Pest Control

Remove Stinging Pests From Your Home

Wasps and other stinging pests can quickly become a headache for homeowners if left unchecked. Wasps can build their nests in wall cavities, under floorboards, and even on the sides of homes, creating their hives close to people. Homes plagued by swarms of wasps often feel unsafe as well as uncomfortable, especially when the swarm has spread within house walls.

It’s important to control unwanted stinging pests before they become a problem in the home and take up residence. From regularly checking for activity in the yard and home to contacting pest professionals for assistance, homeowners have an arsenal of options at their disposal when it comes to managing any pest issue. Taking action quickly is key if a stinging predicament arises within or around the home so that it remains safe and comfortable for the occupants.

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets are primarily flying insects. While they look similar to bees, they are more noticeably segmented with a very small waist. While most species are yellow and black, some can also have white or red markings. They are found worldwide, and there are about 16 species that reside in the U.S.

Yellowjackets are social insects that have annual colonies. This means only the queen will live through winter to start a new colony in the spring time. Common places for a yellowjacket nest are attached to bushes, trees, or the eaves of homes. Yellowjacket nests are built with a paper-like material made from chewed cellulose.

People who are allergic to their venom could have a severe reaction, and it is possible to become hypersensitive to yellowjackets after being stung. This sensitivity could cause a serious problem if stung again in the future

Yellowjackets

Paper wasp are semi-social creatures, as they typically live in small colonies but do not have a worker caste. There are about 22 known paper wasp species in North America, and hundreds in the world. Paper wasp species share similar traits of brown and yellow coloring, but they also have different bands of colors and markings that separate them from one another.

Paper wasps often build nests in residential and commercial properties, so one of the main signs of an infestation is the physical sighting of the nest itself and nearby wasps moving around the nest. While not an aggressive species by nature, paper wasps will sting if they are disturbed. It’s unusual for an impregnated paper wasp to sting but still a slight chance.

Bald-Faced Hornets

Bald-faced hornets are a unique species of insect that can be spotted building paper nests at least three feet off the ground in trees, shrubs, on overhangs, utility poles, houses, sheds, and other structures. It is important to note that these are social insects and not true hornets; however, their behavior alone leads many to confuse the two.

They tend to be most active during the day and become especially aggressive when their nesting area is invaded by anything or anyone. Unlike many other insects, bald-faced hornets are capable of repeatedly stinging anyone or anything they feel threatened by. If you come into contact with any of these pests it is recommended to remove yourself from their vicinity as soon as possible.

Honey Bees

Honey bees get their name from the honey they make using the nectar of flowers. They are social insects found all over the world and are extremely beneficial because of their role in pollination. The two common honey bees found in the United States are the common and rather docile European honey bee and the much more aggressive Africanized honey bee.

Honey bees are active pollinators and produce honey which feeds their young in colder months. They are the only social insect whose colony can survive for many years. Honey bee’s are defensive and do not search to attack. mature colonies can consist of 20,000 to 80,000 individuals. A typical colony consists of infertile females known as workers, males known as drones, and a queen. During the winter, the entire population lays dormant.
